Each of our pieces is hand-crafted from the lumber of fallen trees removed from our hillside property, Pine Tar Hollow. Pine Tar Hollow is a beautiful wooded retreat nestled in the Appalachian Foothills of Hocking County, Ohio. Pine Tar Hollow was established in 2022 with the goal of honoring the beauty of Hocking Hills.
As part of our commitment to sustainability, we only use naturally fallen trees or trees removed in preparation for our homestead (scrap timber) as lumber for our furniture. We do not cut down live trees to make our pieces. Each of our furniture pieces is built in our family wood shop with hand-milled wood from Pine Tar Hollow and treated with our signature pine tar wood treatment.
Pine Tar Hollow earned its name due to its location near Tar Hollow State Forest. Originally named after an early settlers' hot commodity, pine tar, Tar Hollow State Forest remains one of Hocking County's most beautiful parks. Pine tar, now often used in soaps and lotions due to its distinctive smell, has a rich history as a wood preservative.
